Bentley Motors is pushing back its plans to exclusively offer all-electric vehicles by the end of this decade due to changing market conditions and a delay in its first EV. CEO Adrian Hallmark said the famed British luxury carmaker remains committed to carbon neutrality and exclusively offering EVs, but it now plans to do so a couple of years later. Bentley will continue offering plug-in hybrids alongside BEVs, or battery electric vehicles, past its previous target of 2030, Hallmark said. Bentley is among a growing number of automakers to change, delay or cancel ambitious EV plans as global adoption grows slower than many expected. The company now expects its first EV to be released in 2026, pushing back the release of the subsequent vehicles as well.

After a record-breaking year in 2022, Bentley Motors reported surging profits in the first quarter due in large part to car customization, CEO Adrian Hallmark said. Bentley reported its best-ever first quarter, with operating profits up 27% to 216 million euros, or about $232 million. The reason: Wealthy buyers are spending more to personalize their cars with special paint colors, leather, stitching and details. "Customers are choosing one of our 62 paint colors, the 43 leathers we offer and lots of options," Hallmark told CNBC. Bentley's Mulliner Edition department at the company's Crewe factory is turning out record numbers of one-of-a-kind Bentleys with special paint colors, metal finishes and embroidery.

Bentley Motors plans to end production of its 12-cylinder engine next April as the famed luxury carmaker transitions to electric vehicles. Bentley said the upgraded engine will only be used in 18 Bentley Baturs — handcrafted two-seat performance cars that start at about $2 million. Production of the W12 engine will be replaced with expanded assembly of V8 and V6 hybrid engines, according to the company. Bentley says it has produced more than 100,000 of the W12 engines since the assembly began in 2003.
LONDON, Jan 10 (Reuters) - British luxury carmaker Bentley on Tuesday reported record vehicle sales for 2022, with strong demand offsetting a 9% drop in China caused by coronavirus-related lockdowns. "In what was another year of unpredictability, the business overcame significant headwinds and demonstrated great resilience to deliver the third consecutive record sales year," Bentley CEO Adrian Hallmark said in a statement. The company reported sales growth in every regional market except China. This lifted Bentley's average pre-tax sales price nearly 30% to 220,000 euros ($236,500) a car in 2022 from 170,000 euros in 2018. This week another German-owned British luxury brand, BMW (BMWG.DE) unit Rolls-Royce, reported record sales for 2022 with an average price tag of around $534,000 for its luxury cars, also despite a drop in Chinese demand.

REUTERS/Phil NobleCREWE, England, Dec 7 (Reuters) - Volkswagen's (VOWG_p.DE) Bentley expects a slight drop in production in 2023 as shutdowns in China have slowed orders, the British luxury carmaker's chief executive said on Wednesday. "We're not talking about a massive drop off... we have more than half (of next) year sold out already," Hallmark said at the Bentley headquarters in Crewe, England. Bentley will make around 15,000 cars this year and has been running at maximum capacity at the Crewe factory. Hallmark said initially some Bentley customers who favour its big combustion-engine models will refuse to go electric, but most will embrace the power.
LONDON, Nov 2 (Reuters) - Luxury British carmaker Bentley said on Wednesday that its operating profit for the first nine months of 2022 more than doubled, as global economic uncertainty failed to dent customer interest for niche models and increased car customisation. The unit of German carmaker Volkswagen (VOWG_p.DE) posted an operating profit for the first three quarters of 2022 of 575 million euros ($568 million), more than the 275 million euros in the same period of last year. Bentley said global sales were up 3% at 11,316 units, while revenue jumped 28% to 2.49 billion euros from 1.95 billion a year earlier. Sales in the Americas, Bentley's biggest region by sales, were up 7%. ($1 = 1.0128 euros)Reporting By Nick Carey; editing by David EvansOur Standards: The Thomson Reuters Trust Principles.
